I woke up that morning by 5 am feeling like I was forced to get up. I wanted to sleep more. The problem is that I always feel like that— every. Single.day.
Since I go to school from home, I was obliged to have morning prayers with the rest of the family. After that, I ran into the kitchen to prepare food. Funny thing is, I left the kitchen to go back to sleep. A few minutes later, my mom came out of her room to see I I had started to prepare the food for the family…
Time flew and the time was 6:45 am. I remembered my father's warning to both my brother and I that we should leave the house on or before 7:15 in the morning. [For those wondering, my brother studies met&mat engineering in the University of Lagos.] We both had not had our bath. I started panicking and I rushed into the bathroom, after serving food for my mom who was not feeling so well. More time flew and the time was 7:20. I thought my dad would cut us some slack and allow us to eat before leaving. Shockingly, my dad charged out of his room like a raging bull and flushed me out of the house. I was at the gate with my brother and being weak and hungry, we made our way to school.
We got to school by 7:59 am. Eventually, I got to my faculty and I sat down to catch my breath. There were no lectures for that day. My reason for being in school that day was because our lecturer for our course, Introduction to Book Publishing, gave us the task of attending the fresher's orientation that was organized by the faculty of Media and Communication and the department of Mass communication. There, we were to take notes of the highlights of the event, compile and print it out in not less than two pages. Fortunately, we were inform that refreshments were available for the first 200 students who attended. According to the number on the meal ticket they distributed, I was the 167th person. Well, 167 was better than not getting refreshments at all…
As the orientation program went on, I was amazed by the number of guest speakers we had for the event. Upcoming artist, Magixx, Bollyfreak, Trenchboy, and many more were available for the event. The orientation took a lot of time and I started to get hungry. Molaji, a dear course mate sat behind me eating bread with fried egg. The aroma of the food was too much, so I decided to leave the hall. There was a talent show ongoing and Femi, popularly known as FELLINA, my course mate and friend emerged the winner. Femi had a thing for singing, and his talent caught the attention of Magixx, who decided to speak with him later. There were other talented people who were from my class, so I congratulated them on their participation.
Speaking of Classes, I was also supposed to teach some students who were preparing to write the UTME examination this year. This was supposed to be an online class. This was sup to be a trial class before the guy incharge of the tutorial could decide that I was fit to be on payroll. I supposed to teach them English language when I got home. The problem was that I was still in school with no bus in sight to take me back home. To make matters worse, my phone was dead. By God's tender mercy, a bus came and I rushed back home to make it in time for my class. Luckily I made the class the class and I ended the class by 9:00 pm to make it in time for family prayers. I went to sleep, tired and the tutorial guy told me that I was incharge of the free English class. That was not what I wanted but he later told me that if I did well in the free ones, then I will become a paid tutor. With some level of satisfaction, I went to sleep, waiting for the nasty new tricks that Life, Lagos, and Unilag wanted to throw at me…
