MOVING FORWARD
(A story on Faith, Patience and Victory)

SCENE ONE
(A certain young man, OLANREWAJU, walks in on stage looking worried and unhappy. He appears ruminative. Soon, he is joined by his mother.)
(OLANREWAJU in a ruminative mood.)
IYA OLA (walks in to find her son thinking. She looks up as if communicating with God on behalf of her son):
Olanrewaju…
OLANREWAJU:
Ah Iya Ola eku ile ma…
IYA OLA:
O ma da omo mi… oun ti o to nbo wa seku. As long as God is on the throne. You too will move ahead in life.
OLANREWAJU:
Maami when?! Igba wo gan le mi na fe tesiwaju cause I’m tired?!
IYA OLA:
Ehn God is never late omo mi… oruko ma ro e abi you’ve forgotten your name ni?
Olanrewaju.
OLANREWAJU:
Iya Ola e wo now is not the time time for this sermon pe o ma da o ko da ni tori o ti su e mi o!
IYA OLA:
All will be well my son.
OLANREWAJU:
Goodness me! Maami go and start praying e lo kun fun adua tori if I don’t move from where I am mo ma pa ara mi si yin lorun ni! Olanrewaju Olanrewaju every time and yet nothing is working no be juju be dat…
(He walks off the stage angrily. His mother follows right behind him pleading.)
IYA OLA:
Ola sanu mi… Olanrewaju sanu mi Jesu o ni je ki omo temi para e…

SCENE TWO
(OLANREWAJU returns to stage brooding over everything again. Later he starts praying and crying to God for his miracle. His mother joins him.)
OLANREWAJU:
Dear God… where did I go wrong?
What did I do wrong? Kilode? Kilode?! Ah!
Enough is enough! I want to move forward… please move me forward… Jesu Jesu gbo adura mi nigbati iwo ba pe lo mi ran ma se ko iya mi…
(He starts to cry on the second take of the song.)
(“I Will Pray” song is sung at this point.)
(OLANREWAJU’s mum joins in the prayer and cry to God.)
(IYA OLA takes her son and they both exit the stage.)

SCENE THREE
(IYA OLA is on stage doing something. She calls on her daughter.)
IYA OLA:
O ma ti e wa ga pelu ilu wa yi o. Gbogbo nkan lo ti gbowo lori. Omo yi da?
Kitan! Kitan! Where’s this girl?! Olaoluwakitan!
(KITAN enters, moving as if unstable to stay still in protest.)
KITAN:
Ma! Maami I’ve told you several times not to call me Kitan now. It’s Aurora my friends call me in school…
IYA OLA:
Ororo abi ki lo pe ra e?! Oun yeye if you know the powerful meaning of Olaoluwakitan o ni ma pe ra e lo ororo… ororo…
KITAN (scratches the back of her head):
Ah mummy… mo ti gbo you called me…?
IYA OLA:
Wa lo ba mi ra ata wa ni Idi Oro egbon e ma to de. And we’re going to church later madam ororo…
KITAN:
Maami must you always spoil someone’s name?
IYA OLA:
That’s not the name I and your father gave you. Boya ka de ju e sinu pot ororo ki ororo ile ba le pe daada…
KITAN (rolls her eyes):
Argh it’s Aurora mummy! Aurora!
IYA OLA (mocking):
Ororo… jo lo ba mi ra ata wa ko ma ro mi lejo!
(KITAN leaves grumbling and meets her brother.)
OLANREWAJU:
Olakitan what is it?
KITAN:
Is it not mummy calling me ororo…
(She exits.)
(OLANREWAJU walks to the stage.)
OLANREWAJU (smiling):
Iya Ola what did you do to Olakitan?
IYA OLA:
Don’t mind her jare. Oun kin se Kitan ororo loun.
OLANREWAJU (laughing):
Ahan mummy it’s not ororo. Aurora.
IYA OLA:
E wo e fimisile o. Oruko ta so yin la ma pe yin…
OLANREWAJU (still smiling as he sits):
Koburu… e de ku ise na…
(KITAN returns with a nylon and an envelope.)
OLANREWAJU (mocking):
Ororo…
KITAN:
Mummy warn brother Ola o!
IYA OLA:
Agbaya ni e Ola. B’emi gbe ata…
(She collects the nylon.)
KITAN (angry face at brother):
And this is for you ooo. Auntie selling food outside called me on my way in and gave it to me that one man brought it for you.
OLANREWAJU (sits up and opens envelope):
For me? Oh my God! Oh my God!
IYA OLA:
Kini?! What is it?
OLANREWAJU:
Maami! Mo ti gba letter ayo! Mo ti gba letter ayo! This is from that company that rejected my proposal for that million dollars contract I told you about!
(IYA OLA jumps on her feet.)
IYA OLA:
Ehn Jesu seun! Se won ti ni ko pada wa ni?
OLANREWAJU:
Maami won ti approve contract na! God has finally moved me forward maami!
IYA OLA:
Jesu! Jesu! Jesu! O se modupe! O se to d’oju adura ti mi! Ah! Aduro ti Oluwa koni jogun ofo! God is never late! Ola so ranti orin ti mo ma n ko pe Igbagbo ireti ileri ti koni pe…
(They begin to sing praises.)
ALL THREE:
Were were lo ba mi se mo mo oun ti mo tin wa lati jo joyi wa o… were were lo ba mi se mo mo…
(All three excitedly and jubilantly sing praises to God and exit the stage.)
