TCN Announces Daily Power Outages In Delta For Station Maintenance - 3 days ago

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a schedule of daily power outages affecting several communities in Delta State as it carries out preventive maintenance at the Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the company explained that the ongoing work is designed to strengthen the reliability and safety of the transmission network feeding parts of Delta and neighbouring areas. The maintenance focuses on connecting a bus coupler circuit breaker and rehabilitating five isolators on the main busbar, critical components that help manage load flow and protect equipment from faults.

TCN disclosed that, during the exercise, a number of 33kV feeders supplied from the Effurun and Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substations will be taken out of service for several hours each day. Communities and industrial clusters served by the Effurun, Warri, Sapele, Osubi, PTI, PMSL, Refinery I, Refinery II, Enerhen, Isoko/Kwale, Otovwodo/Patani, Ughelli/Shell, Agbarho/Eku, Aladja, Imoniyame and Beta Glass feeders are expected to experience interruptions.

The company stressed that the outages are temporary and structured, noting that power will be restored at the end of each day’s work. According to the statement, supply is scheduled to return by 5:00 p.m. daily, allowing the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to resume offtake for its customers until maintenance activities recommence the following morning.

While acknowledging the inconvenience to homes, businesses and critical services, TCN framed the exercise as a necessary investment in grid stability. Ageing equipment and rising demand have put pressure on transmission infrastructure nationwide, and targeted interventions such as this, the company said, are intended to reduce the frequency of unplanned outages and improve long-term service quality.

TCN appealed for understanding from residents and business owners in the affected areas, assuring them that engineers and technical teams are working within tight timelines to complete the project safely and efficiently. The company also reiterated its commitment to ongoing upgrades across the national grid to support more reliable power delivery.
