I was born in the US, but I was bought back to Nigeria when I was about four or five years old. My parents had gone there to study. They met in Nigeria, but later married in the US.
When we returned, life wasn’t always easy. My parents were young and trying to figure things out. We moved from place to place, sometimes living with relatives before finding our own space.
But one thing my parents always did was sacrifice for education. They lived in smaller houses just so they could send us to better schools. That choice gave me opportunities I might not have had otherwise.
I will always be grateful to them for that.
