Wike Didn’t Flee Protesters, Aide Says - 1wk ago

An aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has countered social media claims that the minister ran from angry protesters during a demonstration in Abuja on Monday.

According to the aide, Wike did not flee but chose to exit through an alternative gate after workers barricaded the main entrance of the FCTA Secretariat amid an ongoing strike over unresolved welfare and salary issues.

The protest, backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress and driven by grievances over unpaid entitlements and welfare conditions, saw demonstrators chanting and attempting to intercept the minister’s convoy as he left the complex via the back gate.

While video clips of the scene circulated widely online, Wike’s media team insisted these visuals were misleading and did not show the minister “running” from the crowd but simply avoiding a blocked route.
