Transfer Deadline Day: Key Dates And Rules - 14 hours ago

It is shaping up to be another record-breaking summer of spending, with clubs still having until Transfer Deadline Day to complete their deals.

When is the Premier League deadline?

Premier League and EFL clubs have until 00:00 WAT on Wednesday, September 2 to complete their transfers.

The deadlines for some other major leagues are:

  • Ligue 1: Tuesday, September 1 – 19:59 WAT
  • Serie A: Tuesday, September 1 – 20:00 WAT
  • Bundesliga: Tuesday, September 1 – 20:00 WAT
  • La Liga: Tuesday, September 1 – 23:59 WAT
  • Scottish Premiership: Thursday, September 3 – 18:00 WAT
  • Women’s Super League: Friday, September 4 – 00:00 WAT
  • Saudi Pro League: Sunday, September 6 – Time TBC

What is a deal sheet?

Premier League clubs can submit a deal sheet during the final two hours of the transfer window. For this window, it can be submitted from 22:00 WAT, giving clubs until the 00:00 WAT deadline to complete the remaining paperwork.

The deal sheet confirms that an agreement has been reached and allows clubs additional time to submit the necessary documentation.

Can free agents be signed after the deadline?

Yes. Players who become free agents after the transfer window closes can still sign for clubs. However, their availability to play immediately depends on squad-registration rules. The registration deadline for free agents is understood to be around a week after the transfer window closes.

How many players can a Premier League squad have?

Premier League clubs can register a maximum of 25 senior players, with no more than 17 players who do not qualify as homegrown.

Players aged under 21 do not count towards the 25-player limit, allowing clubs to register additional U21 players outside the senior squad limit.
