My First Public Speaking Experience - 2wks ago

I still remember the first time I had to speak in front of a crowd.

I had practiced what I wanted to say.

I knew my points.

I even stood in front of the mirror and rehearsed my introduction several times.

In my head, everything was perfect.

Then I stepped in front of the audience.

And suddenly, my brain forgot everything.

Just like that.

My heart started beating so fast I could almost hear it. My palms became sweaty, my mouth went dry, and for a few seconds, I couldn't remember the first sentence I had practiced all night.

I looked at the people staring back at me, and I thought, “Why did I agree to do this?”

Someone in the audience smiled.

I took a deep breath.

Then I started speaking.

My voice was shaky at first. I spoke too quickly. I even stumbled over a few words and completely forgot one of my points.

But something interesting happened.

Nobody laughed at me.

Nobody stood up and walked away.

Nobody shouted, “You don't know what you're doing!”

They simply listened.

And slowly, I relaxed.

The more I spoke, the more confident I became. By the time I reached the end, I was surprised to hear applause.

I walked away feeling relieved—and proud of myself.

That day taught me something I'll never forget:

Confidence doesn't always come before you start. Sometimes, confidence is what you gain because you started.

I had spent so much time worrying about making a mistake that I forgot something important—most people are not waiting for you to fail. They're simply waiting to hear what you have to say.

My first public speaking experience wasn't perfect.

But it was the moment I realized that I didn't have to be perfect to have a voice.

I just had to be brave enough to use it.

What's the first time you ever had to speak in front of people? Did you enjoy it, or were you terrified?
