𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 have become leading issues resulting in several social and economic challenges affecting Nigeria, Africa, and the whole world at large.

​The world as we know it is an ecosystem. An affected part causes a chain or series of other negative events to occur.

​At the 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 in the Department of Development and Strategic Communication, University of Abuja, with the guidance and support from our lecturer, Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, we, the students of this prestigious department, had the opportunity to plant trees and raise awareness about the dangers posed by the rapid expansion of deserts and drought in our country.

​Although I have worked with multiple teams digitally, Dr. Jamila Mohammed Dahiru, systemically taught me and my coursemates what it means to be a team IRL. Some of my colleagues were in charge of providing seedlings, some brought the digging and planting tools, and others fetched water for the plants. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞.

​We faced some unexpected challenges due to infrequent communication, low funding, and low co-operation between us, the students and we learned a lot. In the end, we met our goals of planting trees that represent each H.O.Ds of all the departments present in our faculty and joining the global community in combating desertification and drought.

Let's keep planting trees, creating awareness, and protecting our rangelands.
