Nigeria Intensifies Efforts To Curb Terrorists’ Use Of Drones - 5 days ago

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says it is working closely with other federal agencies to trace and halt the rising deployment of sophisticated drones by insurgent groups in the North-East. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed that investigations into how these unmanned aerial vehicles are being acquired and used by terrorists have reached an advanced stage, with collaborative measures expected to yield concrete action in the coming days or months.

The development comes amid increasing reports of drone-assisted attacks on military positions and civilians in states like Borno, where Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has previously warned that Boko Haram’s use of drones represents a dangerous escalation in their capabilities. In response, authorities are exploring strategies involving intelligence sharing, regulatory oversight, and technical countermeasures to improve airspace security and prevent non-state actors from exploiting unmanned systems in their operations.
