Allegri Replaces Conte As Napoli Manager - 8 hours ago

Massimiliano Allegri has been appointed Napoli’s new head coach, succeeding Antonio Conte in a move that reshapes the balance of power in Serie A.

Napoli confirmed that Allegri has signed a three-year contract running until 2029, entrusting the experienced tactician with the task of restoring the club to the top of Italian football after an inconsistent spell following their recent league triumph.

Allegri arrives in Naples with one of the most decorated résumés in modern Italian coaching. He previously led Juventus in two separate spells, from 2014 to 2019 and again from 2021 to 2024, winning multiple league titles and reaching two Champions League finals. Between those stints he coached AC Milan, first from 2010 to 2014 and then returning for a brief second spell from 2025 to 2026, where his tenure ended after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

His appointment comes amid a turbulent off-season in Serie A, with nearly half the league changing managers. AC Milan have turned to Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim, Atalanta have appointed Maurizio Sarri, and Fiorentina have named former World Cup winner Fabio Grosso, underlining a broader reshuffle on Italian benches.

For Napoli, Allegri represents a shift from Conte’s intense, high-pressing style to a more pragmatic, game-management approach. Known for his tactical flexibility and ability to adapt systems to the strengths of his squad, Allegri is expected to focus on defensive solidity while giving freedom to the club’s attacking talents.

Conte leaves Naples with his reputation intact after guiding the club to the Serie A title in the 2024–25 campaign. The former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter coach is widely tipped to return to the Italy national team, which he previously led between 2014 and 2016, taking the Azzurri to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals before a penalty shoot-out defeat to Germany.

Allegri’s challenge will be to harness a squad that has tasted recent success but struggled for consistency, while navigating fierce competition from rejuvenated rivals. His arrival signals Napoli’s determination to remain a central force in Italian football’s new era.
