Police Arrest Two Nigerians Over Killing Of Compatriot In Tamale - 15 hours ago

The Northern Regional Police Command in Ghana has arrested two Nigerian nationals over the alleged murder of a compatriot in Tamale, in Ghana’s Northern Region.

The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, are being held in connection with the death of 36-year-old Nigerian, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, whose body was discovered in his rented apartment at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.

According to a police statement, the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian, identified as Godwin Nwafor. Police were called to the scene after the victim was reportedly found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom.

Crime scene investigators said the victim had a deep cut on his forehead and a towel stuffed in his mouth, with clear signs that the room had been ransacked. A wooden pestle, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered alongside other items now undergoing forensic examination.

The body was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed his death. It was then deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police said intelligence-led operations quickly focused on the two suspects, who were later intercepted at Tatale, near Ghana’s border with Togo, as they allegedly attempted to flee the country. They were arrested and handed over to the Tamale District Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to kill Nkemujika. According to investigators, they claimed the deceased had been withholding proceeds from internet fraud schemes they had jointly carried out.

A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables. Police say these items have been retained as exhibits.

The suspects remain in custody as investigators build a case for prosecution. Police say they are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing, including the role, if any, of other persons who lived in the apartment.
