Yesterday evening, just a few minutes after I got back from work, I received a call from the driver who was supposed to deliver my waybill. To my shock, he told me he couldn’t find my bag.
Foodstuffs that my parents sent all the way from Oyo State to Enugu State—missing ke? I was flabbergasted.
I knew immediately that I had to make the one-hour journey to the park.
I stood by the roadside for minutes, struggling to get transport, but no cars seemed willing to go in that direction.
I was already considering going back home when a truck pulled up beside me. One of the men inside beckoned, saying I could join them at the back of the truck.
They offered to take me to a bus stop where it would be easier to find transport to my destination.
I started thinking very fast—how would I even climb this truck? What if I the breeze blows me away? 😂😂
Or worse, what if these men were dangerous?
But then, erasing every doubt, I did something I had never done in over two decades of my life. With the help of the man who invited me, I climbed the tyre and swung myself straight into the truck.
The men offered me a seat—on a spare tyre! 😂😂😂 At first, it felt strange, but honestly, it was a great experience.
People on the road looked at me and laughed. I laughed too—I guess they rarely see a well-dressed lady riding at the back of a local truck.
When we got to a police checkpoint, the officer on duty smiled at me and said, “Fine girl, how e dey be now?” 😂😭 I just smiled and said "Na so e be oo".
The funny part was when soldiers passed us in their vehicle and started waving at me🤣. I laughed and waved back at them.
The breeze, the natural view of the mountains and trees, the stares, and the laughs all made it special. It might sound like a simple experience, but I truly enjoyed myself.
Getting to my destination, I put my high jump skills to use and alighted from the truck, went to the park and got my long awaited foodstuffs.
Sometimes, happiness is hidden in mundane things and great moments come from the unexpected.
