NSCDC Deploys 53,500 Personnel Nationwide For Eid-el-Fitr Security - 4 days ago

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed more than 53,500 personnel across the country as part of a nationwide security operation for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Commandant General Abubakar Audi ordered the large-scale deployment, which includes tactical teams and intelligence operatives spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The operation is designed to prevent security breaches, reassure citizens and protect key installations during and after the festivities.

In a statement issued by NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, the corps said the move is a proactive response to emerging security threats and an effort to safeguard Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, including power installations, communication facilities, oil and gas assets and other strategic sites.

Audi directed all zonal commanders, state commandants and provosts of NSCDC colleges to provide robust security coverage within their areas of responsibility. They are to intensify surveillance, conduct regular patrols and maintain a visible presence in communities and at major public venues.

The corps has identified a range of potential flashpoints where security has been tightened. These include Eid prayer grounds, major mosques and churches, shopping malls, motor parks, markets and recreational centres expected to attract large crowds during the holiday.

Both uniformed officers and undercover operatives have been deployed to these locations to detect and disrupt any planned criminal activity. The NSCDC said the dual approach is intended to deter would-be offenders while also enabling discreet intelligence gathering.

Audi also stressed the importance of close collaboration with other security agencies. He ordered sustained inter-agency synergy through information sharing, joint operations where necessary and rapid response to distress calls from members of the public.

The corps urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel and promptly report suspicious movements or objects. While assuring worshippers and holidaymakers of their safety, the NSCDC warned that anyone attempting to exploit the festive period to commit crime would be swiftly apprehended.

The Eid-el-Fitr celebration marks the end of the Ramadan fast for Muslims and typically involves large congregational prayers, family visits and increased travel, prompting security agencies to heighten vigilance nationwide.
