The Ogun State Police Command has opened a full-scale investigation into the killing of veteran broadcaster and retired Ogun State Television personality, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, who were reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen at her residence in Iyana Agodo, in the Obafemi Owode area of the state.
Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said the incident was first reported by a resident of Iyana Agodo village at the Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters, after suspicious movements were noticed around the broadcaster’s home.
According to the statement, detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival, officers found clear signs of forced entry and a struggle within the compound. A search of the premises led to the discovery of the guard’s body in the security post, while Oyesiku’s remains were later found inside her apartment. Her vehicle was also missing, raising suspicion that it may have been taken by the assailants as they fled.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu Ojajuni, has directed homicide detectives and other specialized units to take over the case, describing the attack as a “heinous and callous act” against a respected media figure and an innocent worker on duty. The command said it is pursuing several leads, including possible robbery, targeted attack, or contract killing, and is reviewing intelligence from the area.
Police have expanded surveillance and intelligence-led operations around Iyana Agodo and adjoining communities, while also working with local vigilante groups and community leaders to gather information on suspicious movements before and after the incident. Investigators are said to be tracking the missing vehicle and examining phone records, CCTV footage where available, and other forensic evidence from the scene.
The command extended its condolences to the family of the late broadcaster, the Ogun State Television community, and the wider media industry, acknowledging Oyesiku’s long career and influence in the state’s broadcast sector.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, and to promptly report any information that could assist in identifying and arresting the perpetrators. The police assured the public that no effort will be spared in ensuring that those responsible are tracked down and brought before the law.
