The Day I Almost Missed My Test Because of Hostel Drama”
You know those mornings that start fine — until they don’t?
Yeah. That was me.
My alarm rang by 6:00 a.m., but my brain didn’t respond till 7:48.
My test was by 8:00. 🫠
I jumped up, brushed half my teeth, wore a singlet that could testify in court for how much I’ve suffered, and ran straight to the bathroom.
But guess what?
No water.
Of course. Classic hostel experience.
I dashed to Room B7 with my bucket, praying for a miracle. “Abeg, who get small water make I baff small?”
Silence.
Everyone was either pretending to be asleep or just ignoring me.
So, I did what any desperate student would do — I used wet wipes and perfume to freshen up. If I smelt good enough, maybe nobody would notice I didn’t actually bathe.
Then came the outfit struggle. My white basic top suddenly decided to turn cream, my jeans refused to button, and my wig looked like it fought with a fan overnight. But who cares? I had a test.
By 8:12, I was running to class like an Olympic athlete — breathless, sweating, and praying the lecturer hadn’t locked the door.
I got there at 8:14.
He looked at me, then at his wristwatch.
“Next time, be early,” he said.
I smiled sheepishly and entered, thanking God silently because if Dr Ekeh had locked me out, I would’ve cried in public.
Later that evening, while I was washing my clothes (and my shame), I laughed. Because somehow, we all have that one chaotic morning that reminds us we’re surviving….not just schooling😂😂
