🎯 THE LORD’S PRAYER
HOW TO PRAY

🔎📖 MATTHEW 6: 5-15
🎯📖 Matthew 6:9 “When you pray, pray like this…”

Your prayer life determines the limit of your spiritual operations, because it is a true reflection of your spiritual stature. Unfortunately, we often feel that God is obligated to answer our prayers just because we prayed. Jesus taught that there is a recommended pattern for prayers. In the passage above, Jesus warns us about spiritualized hypocrisy and He charges us all to live authentic lives. He warns of alms giving, praying and fasting as three religious practices that are often turned to occasions for showmanship. Jesus clearly implies that prayer is not a careless act. He said, when you pray, pray like this…

👉🏽 HOW NOT TO PRAY
Matthew 6:5and 7 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling.”

Jesus describes the hypocrites as using prayers to seek public attention and the babbles to gain appreciable prayer length for showmanship. Why do modern Christians have public address systems to announce their private prayers? Whose attention and appreciation do you seek when you pray? How much do you pray when no one is watching? If your public prayer life is more pronounced and active than your private prayer life then you are more inclined to hypocrisy. In the days of Eli, though the Israelites prayed loudly and the ground shook, they were defeated that day and the ark captured. That event teaches us that some prayers are empty mechanical emotional display. Do you want a prayer live God approves? When you pray, pray like this…

👉🏽 HOW TO PRAY
Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Though there is a place for corporate prayers in our faith walk, the strength of a Christian is gained most often from private devotional prayers. Psalm 91 describes that kind of person as “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High.” There are secrets of heaven that are released only to Him who dwells in the secret place of the Most High. Are you one of those? The secret of many men of God is a consistent devotional life where the prayer time is revered for an intimate moment with us God. Do you want God to hear you and to also hear God? Then when you pray, pray like this…

Please meditate and pray with the hymn of Charlotte Elliot, Christian Seek Not Yet Repose.

1 'Christian! seek not yet repose,'
hear thy guardian angel say;
thou art in the midst of foes;
'watch and pray.'

2 Principalities and powers,
mustering their unseen array,
wait for thy unguarded hours;
'watch and pray.'

3 Gird thy heavenly armour on,
wear it ever night and day;
ambushed lies the evil one;
'watch and pray.'

4 Hear the victors who o’ercame;
still they mark each warrior’s way;
all with one sweet voice exclaim,
'watch and pray.'

5 Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
him thou lovest to obey;
hide within thy heart his word,
'watch and pray.'

6 Watch, as if on that alone
hung the issue of the day;
pray, that help may be sent down;
'watch and pray.'

PRAYER 🙏🏽
Almighty God, please deliver me from a hypocritical prayer life that seeks public attention and commendation rather than Your face and Your grace in secret. Please draw me into the secret place of devotion in Jesus name. Amen.

Have a blessed Friday & stay safe 😷🙏🏽

Have a wonderful day.
