The last time they saw each other was five years ago.
Life had taken them in different directions. One moved to another city for work, while the other stayed behind to build a family business. Birthdays were sometimes forgotten, phone calls became less frequent, and months would pass without a single conversation.
To many people, it looked as though the friendship had ended.
Then one afternoon, they met again by chance.
There was no awkward silence. No feeling of being strangers. Within minutes, they were laughing over old memories, encouraging each other through new challenges, and talking as if no time had passed at all.
That is the beauty of true friendship.
Real friendship is not measured by how often people talk. It is measured by trust, loyalty, understanding, and the ability to pick up where they left off. Distance may separate friends physically, but it does not have to separate them emotionally.
Of course, distance can test any relationship. Busy schedules, different priorities, and life's unexpected turns can make staying in touch difficult. But when a friendship is built on genuine care and mutual respect, those challenges do not always bring it to an end.
True friends celebrate each other's victories, offer support during difficult seasons, and remain happy for one another even from miles away. They understand that silence does not always mean neglect—it often means life is simply demanding attention elsewhere.
This does not mean friendships should be taken for granted. A thoughtful message, a surprise phone call, or checking in from time to time reminds the other person that they still matter.
At the end of the day, distance is measured in kilometres, but friendship is measured in the heart.
When a friendship is real, miles may separate two people, but they can never erase the bond they have built together.
