As one of the leading technological companies in the world, Apple has had us all wondering what the motive was behind it’s famous logo - the half bitten apple. Well, get ready for this blast into the past.
It began with Isaac Newton and how he discovered the theory of gravity. According to the story, Isaac was sitting under an apple tree at his family’s estate when an apple fell. Some say it fell on his head and caused the revelation, but that’s a story for another day I suppose.
Either way, that apple was what made the cogs in Isaac’s mind begin to turn. From there, he began asking other questions like ‘Why does the apple fall straight down and not in any other direction?’ and ‘Is this the same force keeping the planets together and the moon in orbit?’
You might think you know where I’m going with this story…but you’d only be partially correct.
Isaac’s discovery was a moment of innovation, originality, and pure genius from humble beginnings - quite like how Apple began.
It suggested that the company itself was a source of new ideas, of ground breaking discoveries and all those wonderful things.
Now in the beginning, Apple’s logo was a detailed sketch of Newton sitting under a tree, but as you can imagine, it was far too complex to maintain.

So the minds behind Apple, Steve Jobs and his people, sat again to ask themselves ‘How can we make our logo better?’
That led to the creation of what is now widely recognised as the Apple logo - a half-bitten apple. It still maintains their original idea of Newton and his discoveries but in an easier way.
‘But you haven’t explained why the apple is half-bitten?!’
The reason for that is quite simple and doesn’t have any evil interpretations as some conspiracy theorists might suggest.
The company simply didn’t want people to confuse the apple with another fruit like a peach, persimmon, or pear.
And there you have it! The mystery behind a famous logo explained.
If you are a doubtful Thomas and want to cross-check everything I’ve said so far, please be my guest. Just make sure you come back to tell me how right I am!😁😌
