THE FLAME KEEPER 4 - 2 years ago

“Flame keeper.”

Is the whisper

That flits across my ear.

“What?” Asks Zoster.

“What, Audie did you say?”

I wonder

Did I say something just now?

Would my shock even allow

Words to come out of my mouth?

"No.

I said no.

Do you know the horrors those people undergo?

Even so. I'm not better than them. Even so.

But I'm not brave enough to want to let my life go."

“Fool,” says Zeph, "such a fool.

Do you think we'd let you stay under our roof?

Don't you know you've outstayed your usefulness?

And you are nothing left but a mess."

“Your fault!” I yell, "all your fault!

My anger will not quell

So long as my pain is not forgot

You framed me in pictures of deceit

Whereupon fake smiles, I seethe underneathe

You've drowned me in ennui

And you haven't raised me honestly.

I'm nothing but a sack of flesh

A future bag for trash—

And still you want me to die

For your benefit.

I must admit

This is rather boorishly sly.

Please! Change your mind,

Even under all the rashness you are kind

I hope that consideration I will find

And your light of benevolence has shined.

I will work! Slave away what I can.

I will earn a handsome dowry from a man

I will give you all the profits of my hands

And forever you will own all my thanks!

I will treat you two like gods

No! No bluff,

I will worship the ground you walk on

With no huff!

If I can I will give you the sun

That can off

And can slay all the wretched to none!"

Aaah

Silence

Aaaaaaaaaaah

Ultimate silence.

They stare at me with molten eyes

They do not bother to disguise

They've paid no heed at all to my cries.

Aaah

Silence

Aaaaaaaaaah

Ultimate silence.

“You have no choice,” says Zeph, “Nobody should fear death the way you do—”
