Police in Yobe State have arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly shot another man with a bow and arrow after finding him with his wife in what authorities described as a “compromising situation.”

The incident occurred in Danewa-Biriri village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area, near the home of the woman’s parents. According to the Yobe State Police Command, the suspect confronted the victim after reportedly seeing him with his wife, and the confrontation quickly escalated.

In the heat of the altercation, the suspect is said to have armed himself with a traditional bow and arrow and shot the other man, inflicting serious injuries. Police said the victim was rushed to the Police Hospital in Damaturu, where he is receiving treatment.

The state police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is in custody while detectives work to piece together the full circumstances of the attack. The case is being treated as one of causing grievous hurt, and investigators are taking statements from those involved and from witnesses in the community.

Police have not released the identities of the suspect, his wife, or the injured man, but indicated that all angles are being examined, including the nature of the relationship between the victim and the woman, and whether there had been prior disputes.

Authorities used the case to caution residents against resorting to violence in domestic or marital disputes. The command stressed that suspicions of infidelity or misconduct should be reported through lawful channels rather than handled through personal retaliation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed that the investigation be expedited and that the case file be forwarded for legal advice once inquiries are concluded. He urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the justice system to address the matter.

Police further appealed to communities across Yobe to seek mediation, counselling, or legal redress in sensitive family conflicts, warning that emotionally charged confrontations can quickly turn deadly when weapons are involved, even traditional ones such as bows and arrows.
