Poverty is one of the biggest challenges facing young people today. It does not only affect their ability to buy food or meet basic needs, but also limits their education, career opportunities, and hopes for a better future. Across many communities, especially in rural areas, countless young people have dreams of becoming doctors, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders. Sadly, many of those dreams are delayed or completely abandoned because they lack the resources and support to pursue them.

Many talented young people are forced to leave school because their families cannot afford school fees or learning materials. Others graduate but remain unemployed for years because there are few job opportunities. Without access to vocational training, mentorship, or financial support, many lose confidence and begin to believe that success is beyond their reach.

The effects of poverty go beyond financial hardship. It often leads to frustration, depression, crime, drug abuse, child labour, early marriage, and other social problems. When young people feel forgotten by society, they may stop believing in themselves and give up on their ambitions.

However, this situation can change. Governments, private organizations, and community leaders must invest in quality education, vocational training, youth entrepreneurship, and job creation. Scholarships, skill acquisition programmes, and mentorship opportunities can help young people discover their potential and build successful futures. Families and communities also have a role to play by encouraging and supporting young people instead of allowing poverty to define them.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to dream and to achieve those dreams. Poverty should never be the reason a talented child is left behind. By investing in our youth today, we are investing in a stronger, more prosperous nation tomorrow. Delayed dreams do not have to become forgotten dreams if we choose to create opportunities that give every young person a fair chance to succeed.
