Plasu Imprisons Two For Forging Fake Certificate - 3 months ago

The Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State, wishes to clarify its position and actions regarding the recent incident of academic certificate forgery. The institution, in line with its statutory mandate, has acted decisively to address and curtail fraudulent activities that threaten the credibility of its academic qualifications.

Upon the presentation of a suspicious certificate at the Examinations and Records Section, university staff, adhering strictly to established verification protocols, identified irregularities. The document in question, allegedly issued by the now-defunct Federal College of Education, Pankshin, could not be authenticated through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal. This failure to meet standard verification requirements immediately triggered an internal review, as is the university’s policy in such matters.

In accordance with institutional procedures, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jere Ndazhaga, authorized a comprehensive investigation. The findings revealed the existence of a criminal syndicate engaged in the forgery, falsification, and unauthorized issuance of academic results, purportedly on behalf of the defunct college. Such activities are in direct contravention of the university’s regulations and the laws governing educational institutions in Nigeria.

The university’s security unit, operating in conjunction with the Divisional Police Office in Pankshin and the State Intelligence Department (SID), undertook coordinated operations. These efforts resulted in the apprehension of two individuals, Friday Tunkyes and Harvey Obed Ringsum, whose actions were found to be in violation of both university policy and national law. The search of their premises yielded forged certificates and unauthorized institutional stamps, clear evidence of their illicit activities.

Following due process, including thorough investigation and judicial proceedings, the individuals were convicted and sentenced to one and a half years’ imprisonment each. The university emphasizes that such outcomes are the result of strict adherence to legal and institutional frameworks designed to protect the integrity of academic credentials.

The university categorically condemns all forms of academic fraud. As stated by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, such incidents are “disturbing and unacceptable.” The institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that could compromise its reputation or the value of its qualifications. The recent convictions are intended as a deterrent to others who may consider engaging in similar criminal behavior.

It is imperative for all organizations, employers, and stakeholders to exercise due diligence in verifying academic certificates. The university reiterates that there are no shortcuts to genuine academic achievement. Any attempt to circumvent established processes will be met with the full force of institutional and legal sanctions.

The university also calls upon the public to report any suspicious activities that may undermine the education sector. Collective vigilance is essential to maintaining the credibility of academic institutions and supporting national development objectives.

In line with its motto, “Excellence in Service,” the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, reaffirms its commitment to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity. Every certificate issued by the institution is the result of rigorous academic training and character development. Any act that seeks to undermine this process will not be tolerated.

The university urges all stakeholders to recognize the seriousness of certificate forgery and academic fraud. The institution’s actions in this case are not only justified but necessary to restore and maintain public confidence in the nation’s educational system.
