Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has publicly withdrawn his support for Abia State Governor Alex Otti, saying he will instead work to deliver the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the 2027 elections.
Kalu, speaking at a press briefing in his country home in Igbere, recalled that he helped Otti win in 2023 but insisted he will not repeat that effort, stressing that he now prioritises his party’s success. He said his comments in support of the APC drew criticism from the governor’s media team, and maintained that his decision to back his party should not attract insults.
On Otti’s performance, Kalu accused the governor of focusing mainly on repainting and rebuilding roads that were originally constructed during his own tenure as governor between 1999 and 2007, and argued that he has not seen any major new road projects of similar scale.
He claimed that the revenue available to Otti in just four months surpasses what he had during his entire eight-year administration, yet the current government’s impact remains limited, in his view. Kalu contrasted this with his own record as a senator, where he says he has delivered new rural and farmland roads for communities in Abia North.
