Hoodlums In The Streets Of Lagos - 1wk ago

On the streets of Lagos, it has become a normal sight to see street hoodlums extort money from people.

They extort money from working people like bikemen, cab drivers, bus drivers, and even keke Napep drivers.

Most of these hoodlums are not licensed by the government or the local government to collect these fees. So the question is, why are they doing it and why haven't the government apprehended them?

Truly, there are some officers licensed by the government to collect fees from these people as a form of tax but most of these officers use unnecessary vioence  to collect money from the workers, which should not be acceptable in society.

On my way to school on Thursday, I saw some hoodlums stationed at the middle of the road. They were stopping bikeman to collect money from them and mind you, these people were not uniformed nor did they issue any ticket after the money was paid.

I feel like this is really unfair to these drivers as they have to pay multiple fees ( necessary and unnecessary) daily from the little amount of money they earn. And when they refuse to pay it, they get dragged or worse still, beaten by these hodliums.

I feel like the government can do better in apprehending these people. Lagos and any other place in Nigeria should be a free place for it's citizen. A free place that one can work comfortably without encountering these hoodlums here and there.
